Protect Consumer Choice and America’s Only Donkey Milk Dairy

A concerning bill recently passed the Oklahoma Senate and is now headed to the Oklahoma House of Representatives. If passed, this legislation would place new restrictions on how certain raw milk products can be advertised in Oklahoma — including donkey milk.

This matters because Oklahoma is home to the only donkey milk dairy farm in the United States. The bill would directly impact their ability to communicate about and promote their product to consumers.

In addition to restricting advertising, the bill would also increase taxes on milk sold in Oklahoma, adding additional pressure on producers and raising concerns for consumers who value access to alternative dairy products.

For many families, donkey milk and other raw milk products are sought out for personal, nutritional, or dietary reasons. Limiting the ability for producers to even discuss or advertise these products creates unnecessary barriers for small farms and the consumers who rely on them.

Small agricultural businesses should not be singled out by regulations that limit their ability to operate, communicate with customers, and grow.

The Bill Has Passed the Senate — Now It Heads to the House

The vote in the Oklahoma Senate passed 25–20, with three members excused.

Now the decision moves to the Oklahoma House of Representatives, where lawmakers will decide whether this bill becomes law.
